Obituary for Rebecca Wheeler (Phillips)

Rebecca Wheeler (Phillips)
Becky Wheeler went to be with her Lord and Savior October 11, 2016. The visitation will be at Hampton Park located at 875 State Park Road in Greenville, South Carolina on Friday, October 14, from 5-7 p.m. The funeral will be at Hampton Park Saturday morning, October 15 at 10:00 am followed by burial around 11:30 am. at Graceland Cemetery West located at 4814 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC.
Becky was born October 13, 1950 in Greenville, South Carolina as Rebecca Jane Phillips, the firstborn child of her parents, Jack and Jean Phillips. Then later came a sister, Teresa (now Teresa Steen), a second sister, Rachel (now Rachel Shafovaloff), and lastly a brother, Jeff Phillips. Becky graduated from Travelers Rest High School in 1968 and then Bob Jones University with a degree in Elementary Education in 1972 and again from Bob Jones University with a degree in piano in 1979. In between her two college degrees, she taught at Pensacola Christian School.
Becky received Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young girl. Her parents gave her a godly Christian upbringing at home and in Bible-believing Christian churches. She took piano for many years growing up, earned a degree in piano and then entered into a long career as a piano teacher. She used her piano training to serve the Lord.
On June 25, 1983, Becky married Tom Wheeler. Tom and Becky deeply loved each other and enjoyed 33 and ½ years of wonderful Christian marriage. Becky taught piano in christian schools, played church offertories and accompanied sacred special music through the years in association with her husband’s ministry while he served at the Bob Jones University Press, at Tri-City Ministries in Missouri as a Bible college and seminary teacher and as pastor at Ferndale Baptist Church and Christian School in North Charleston, South Carolina. God blessed Becky and Tom with 3 children: Daniel (born 1985), Nathan (born 1987), and Beth (born 1989). God blessed Becky and Tom with 5 grandchildren: Eli, Gabe, Brody, Ziva, and Raelyn. Tom and Becky resettled in Greenville in 2008 and joined Hampton Park Baptist Church.
Becky went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Becky’s family members remember her very fondly as a very devoted and loving Christian wife, mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother. Family members and former piano students have recently written wonderful tributes to Becky. Becky’s husband, children, mother, siblings, grandchildren, in-laws, extended family, former piano students and many Christian friends will miss her greatly. However, we are comforted to know she is with Christ in Heaven through faith in Christ for salvation and that through faith in Christ for salvation, we can go to be with the Lord in heaven and we will see her again.
