Obituary for William Thomas O'Bryant

William Thomas "Dub" O'Bryant, 94, of Greenville passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017. William was born in Forsythe County, Georgia to Jesse Harrison and Zonia Hendrix O'Bryant on October 23, 1922. He was retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Mattie Lou Couch O'Bryant, brothers Willie O'Bryant and Lee O'Bryant, and a sister, Marjorie O'Bryant Andrews. He is survived by a son, David O'Bryant, and two sisters, Mae O'Bryant Kyle and Virginia O'Bryant Lee.

William was a devoted husband and father who loved both family and friends. He was also a lover of music. Along with his brother, Lee, he played in a touring country and western band in the late 1940s, making radio appearances and also playing at the Grand Ole Opry.

Dub spent the last year of his life in the loving care of Autumn Care of Saluda, NC where he was happy everyday. At the end of his life, he was cared for by the kind staff of Hospice of Rutherford.

Dub was also an animal lover. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please remember him by donating to the Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Road, Greenville, SC, 29607. Condolences may be made to the family in care of David O'Bryant, 114 Glenbrooke Way, Greenville, SC, 29615.

There will be a private graveside service for the family.
